Step 1 of 5
Step 1. Assess wound exudate
Classify the wound by exudate — this is the only criterion for choosing the Flaminal® form. Dry or moderately exuding wound → Hydro. Heavily exuding wound → Forte. Both formulas handle infection, fibrin and necrosis equally.
- Dry wound — crust or scant exudate, minimal moisture
- Moderately exuding — dressing is damp but not soaked through
- Heavily exuding — soaked dressing, fibrin or pus present

Step 2 of 5
Step 2. Prepare the wound bed
Remove necrotic tissue, fibrin slough, pus, and blood. If needed — surgical debridement or irrigation with saline (0.9% NaCl). Rinse until the wound surface is clean.
- ❌ Do not use hydrogen peroxide, povidone-iodine, chloramphenicol/methyluracil ointments or other antiseptic solutions and topical agents during dressing changes
- ✓ Rinse only with sterile saline (0.9% NaCl)
- ✓ Surgical debridement — only when indicated, performed by a specialist

Step 3 of 5
Step 3. Apply a 0.5 cm gel layer
Apply an even 0.5 cm layer of Flaminal® over the entire wound surface. Cover the wound edges — this protects healthy skin and maintains a moist regenerative margin.
- Layer thickness — about 0.5 cm across the wound bed
- Cover 1–2 cm of healthy skin around the wound edges

Step 4 of 5
Step 4. Cover with a dry dressing for 2 days
Cover the wound with a dry sterile gauze pad or absorbent dressing. Secure without excessive pressure. Leave in place for 2 days — the gel works during this time.
- Dry sterile gauze — for moderate exudate
- Absorbent dressing — for heavy exudate
- Wear time — 2 days (48 hours)

Step 5 of 5
Step 5. After 2 days — repeat
After 48 hours remove the dressing. Wipe off the previous gel layer with a gauze moistened in saline — the gel does not adhere, removal is painless. Then apply a fresh 0.5 cm layer and re-dress for another 2 days.
- Wipe off the old gel with gauze soaked in 0.9% saline
- Do not scrub the wound — the gel comes off easily
- Apply a fresh Flaminal® layer and repeat the cycle until healed
Important
What not to combine with Flaminal®
During a Flaminal® course do not treat the wound with antiseptic solutions or topical ointments — they break down the gel's enzyme system and reduce its effectiveness.
- Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) — destroys the gel's enzymes
- Chloramphenicol/methyluracil ointments, povidone-iodine and other topical agents — conflict with the active complex
- Alcohol-based solutions — dry out the wound bed
